The Tales of Beedle the Bard - J.K. Rowling Enjoyable, if a bit shallow. These stories don't have the same magic as the rest of the books in the Harry Potter universe, but then again, it's not really meant to. It's an add-on, a little collection of wizarding fairy tales that is meant to entertain, not whip up the fan hysteria of the core seven books, and I think quite a few readers have forgotten that this is not the "eighth" Harry Potter book.

The tales are silly but no more so than a lot of the fairy tales we grow up hearing as children. Dark, yes, but then, so were the vast majority of folk tales (at least, before Disney got hold of them). And certainly no darker than the last two or three books in the HP series. A quick read, took me around half an hour, and thoroughly enjoyable. Buy for the tales, stay intrigued by the Dumbledore "commentary."

And the proceeds are going to charity. Much respect to Rowling for that.
